Is a hotwife the same as a swinger?
Not the same, though they overlap. Swinging is the broad community of couples who socialise and play with others, usually together. Hotwifing is one specific dynamic inside it: she has experiences with other men with her husband's knowledge and encouragement, and he is not required to have a partner of his own. A hotwife couple can be part of the swinging world or stay outside it entirely.

The words are related, but they are not synonyms, and the difference is the shape of the arrangement. Swinger describes belonging to a broad community: couples who socialise with other couples, often at events and clubs, and who may swap partners, play together in the same room, or simply enjoy the social side. Hotwife describes one specific dynamic within that world — and also outside it, since plenty of hotwife couples never attend a swinging event at all.
The distinguishing feature of a hotwife arrangement is that it centres on one partner's experiences. She chooses who she meets and what she does; her husband knows, supports, and often takes part in the planning. He is not required to have a parallel partner of his own, and often does not. The supporting role has its own vocabulary — stag, or stag and vixen for the pair — and the older, broader umbrella term is wife sharing, which overlaps with swinging but keeps the same asymmetry.
Put the three labels side by side and the axes are who has outside partners, whether the arrangement runs both ways, and where it usually happens. Swinging is reciprocal: both partners play, often together and often in the same room as another couple, which is why it is organised around couples' events and venues. Wife sharing is the older, looser umbrella for arrangements where she has outside partners and he may or may not — the term itself does not settle that. Hotwife is the narrower, modern label for the asymmetric version: her experiences are the arrangement, his role is to support them, and the setting is a date she goes on rather than an event the couple attends together.
Club rules are where the labels meet a practical wall: many swingers clubs restrict or exclude single men, and some run couples-only nights, so a hotwife couple arriving together generally fits the door policy while the man she might otherwise meet separately may not be admitted on the same night. Those policies come from the venue's published rules, not from the couple's label. JoinTheSwing is pre-launch: new registration remains closed until the coordinated native-app release is approved, and the public answers library and free launch list are open meanwhile.
