What is a lifestyle event?

A 'lifestyle event' is the umbrella term for organised gatherings within the swinging community. It covers a wide range: casual meet-and-greets (drinks and conversation, no pressure), club nights at on- or off-premise venues, private house parties, play parties with space for on-premise activity, and larger resort takeovers or hotel takeovers that run over a weekend.

Events differ mainly by setting and intensity. A meet-and-greet is purely social and the right first event for most people. A play party or on-premise club night assumes some guests will play, which makes vetting, consent, and etiquette even more important. Knowing which type an event is sets expectations before you arrive.

Most well-run lifestyle events are for verified or vetted guests — hosts review attendees, post house rules, and may require a certain ratio or vouches from single attendees. Consent is the central rule: no one is ever obligated to participate, and discretion about who attends and what happens is expected.

For most newcomers, a social event is a far better first step than a high-intensity on-premise one — it lets you get comfortable with the community and its etiquette first.
