Many couples test every few months, carry recent results, and treat honest sexual-health conversations as standard etiquette — not an awkward exception.
Sexual health in the lifestyle follows the same principles as any responsible sexual activity, applied consistently: regular STI testing, honest conversations about status and practices, and barrier protection in keeping with personal and couple agreements. The community generally treats this as basic etiquette rather than a taboo subject.
Many active participants test on a regular cadence — commonly every three to six months, or more often depending on activity — and some keep recent results handy to share. A full panel typically covers the common infections; a clinic, doctor, or sexual-health service can advise on what and how often to test for your situation.
Open conversation is the norm. Discussing protection, testing history, and boundaries before any encounter is expected and respected; a partner who resists those conversations is effectively screening themselves out. Couples decide their own protocols — for example, barrier protection with new partners — and state them plainly in advance.
