What is a naturist resort?
A naturist (or nudist) resort is a vacation property built around social nudity in a non-sexual, back-to-nature setting — pools, beaches, and grounds where being nude is the norm. It differs from a lifestyle (swinger) resort: naturism centres comfort with the body and nature, not sexual activity, though some properties blend the two.
A naturist resort is a property organised around naturism — the practice of social nudity in a wholesome, body-positive, back-to-nature spirit. Guests are nude at pools, beaches, and around the grounds, and the ethos is comfort, acceptance, and freedom rather than anything sexual.
It is important to distinguish a naturist resort from a lifestyle (swinger) resort. Naturism is explicitly non-sexual: staring, sexual approach, and overt sexual behaviour are against the rules at a true naturist property. A lifestyle resort, by contrast, is adults-only with a social, sensual atmosphere for the swinging community. Some destinations blend elements of both, so it pays to know which you are booking.
Etiquette at a naturist resort is straightforward and strict: no photography without permission, no staring, sit on a towel, and treat everyone with respect. Many people find the environment surprisingly relaxing and non-sexual once they settle in.
