What is a play party?
A play party is a private lifestyle event with on-premise space where consensual sexual activity is welcome, distinct from a purely social meet-and-greet. Guests are typically vetted in advance, house rules are posted, and consent and discretion are strictly expected. It is a higher-intensity setting best approached after a social event or two.
A play party is a private gathering in the lifestyle where on-premise sexual activity is welcome — meaning the venue has designated space for play, as opposed to a purely social event where connections are made but play happens elsewhere. Play parties may be hosted in a private home, a rented venue, or an on-premise club, and they range from intimate gatherings to larger organised events.
What sets a play party apart from a meet-and-greet is the setting and the expectations. A meet-and-greet is a low-pressure social mixer — drinks and conversation, with no expectation of anything more. A play party assumes that some guests will play, which makes vetting, consent, and etiquette even more important. Well-run play parties have a host or point of contact, clearly posted house rules, and a process for handling any boundary issues on the spot.
Consent is the central rule. Nobody is ever obligated to participate in anything; watching, socialising, or leaving early are all completely acceptable. Guests are expected to ask before joining any interaction, to accept 'no' gracefully, and to respect the privacy of everyone present — what happens at the party stays private.
For most people new to the lifestyle, a social meet-and-greet is a better first event than a play party. Getting comfortable with the community and its etiquette first makes the higher-intensity environment of a play party feel far more natural when you do attend one.
On JoinTheSwing, hosted events use reviewed guest lists and RSVP approval, so every attendee is a verified member before venue details are released. See the safety and privacy guide for what to expect and how to prepare for your first event.
