Cash covers the door fee and the bar, and some venues are cash-only for privacy reasons.

The host's invitation is your packing list. A meet-and-greet typically requires nothing beyond your ID, cash, and a smart casual outfit. A club night may ask for a change into theme attire or lingerie for later in the evening — bring a small bag with options if the invitation mentions it. A house party may ask guests to bring a bottle or a specific contribution. Read the invitation carefully; hosts put genuine effort into these details and notice when guests follow them.

The non-physical items matter most. Bring a clear, shared agreement with your partner about your boundaries for the evening — what you are and are not open to, and a simple signal or code word that means you want to leave. Decide that the only goal is to meet people and observe. The built-in exit plan is what makes the entry feel manageable.

A charged phone helps with logistics — navigation to the venue, checking in with each other if separated, and coordinating an exit. But phones stay in social areas only. Photography of other guests without explicit consent is one of the most serious violations at any lifestyle event. Some venues collect phones at the door or seal cameras with stickers.
