What does No Means No mean?
A consent principle meaning that any clear refusal, hesitation, or withdrawal of agreement must be respected immediately, without pressure, bargaining, or retaliation.
No Means No is a straightforward consent rule: when someone says no, pauses, seems unsure, or takes back permission, the interaction stops. Agreement to one thing is not agreement to everything, and a previous yes does not create an open invitation. Respect the boundary calmly, thank the person for being clear, and move on without asking them to justify their decision.
In social settings, this principle applies to invitations, conversation, touch, photographs, and any shared activity. Do not use charm, alcohol, persistence, or group pressure to turn a refusal into consent. If plans change, check in and accept the new answer. A venue or host may have house rules, but personal consent remains individual and can be withdrawn at any time.
