What does Polyamory mean?

Polyamory is the practice of maintaining multiple romantic relationships simultaneously with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved — distinct from the Lifestyle by its emphasis on emotional connection over event-driven exploration.

Polyamory centers on building multiple genuine romantic relationships, each with emotional depth, mutual investment, and the knowledge and consent of all parties. Where the Lifestyle typically treats encounters as social-sexual events within a primary couple's partnership, polyamory may involve forming new nesting partnerships, co-parenting arrangements, or long-term committed relationships outside the original pair bond.

The two communities overlap — some polyamorous people attend Lifestyle events; some Lifestyle couples develop emotionally significant connections with play partners. But the default orientations differ: polyamory defaults to relationship formation; the Lifestyle defaults to partnered social exploration. Platform choice often reflects this: polyamorous people find more structural support on Feeld or OkCupid, while couples seeking verified clubs, curated events, and private Letters find it on JoinTheSwing.

Neither is superior. They are different answers to the question of how non-monogamy should be structured, and the distinction is worth understanding before entering a community that may have strong cultural norms around it.
