What is People on JoinTheSwing?
People — originally called The Society — is the main member discovery surface: a verified-member feed where you can browse nearby members, recently verified members, traveling members, and members who have been saved or connected with by people you know. All discovery stays behind verified access; no member information is visible publicly.
People is where the verified community becomes navigable. Rather than a static search directory, it is a contextual feed that surfaces members relevant to your situation: people who are near your location, people who recently completed verification, people traveling to cities you are interested in, and people with social connections to members you already know.
Every signal in the People feed is relative to your own social context. The 'recently verified' signal helps you find new members who are just joining the community. The 'traveling' signal lets you connect with verified members who are in your city visiting, or who are going somewhere you are planning to visit.
The 'saved by people you trust' signal is the social graph layer: if verified members whose judgment you respect have saved or connected with a particular profile, that is a meaningful signal about that profile's quality and community standing.
None of the People feed's content is visible to anyone who is not signed in. Member profiles, photos, travel signals, and social history sit behind the sign-in wall, and member profiles are kept out of search engines. People is explicitly not an indexable public directory.
Discovery in People is designed to be consent-first at every step. Viewing a profile does not trigger a notification to the member. Saving a profile for later reference does not notify them. The first notification they receive is when you send a private introduction request, and they retain full control over whether to accept it.
