What does Veto mean?
A veto is an agreement that either partner can call off a connection, at any point, without having to justify it. Couples who use one usually agree in advance how and when it applies.
Veto is a relationship agreement, not a community rule. Some couples want the reassurance that either of them can end a connection unilaterally; others find it creates resentment and prefer to negotiate case by case.
Where it works, it works because it was discussed in calm conditions rather than invoked in the middle of an event. Couples who use one tend to agree in advance what triggers it, how it is communicated, and what happens next — including what they owe the third person involved.
The part worth thinking about is that a veto affects someone outside the couple. Handling it with care, and being honest up front that you hold one, is the difference between a boundary and a bruise.
