What does Consent mean?
In the Lifestyle, consent is the informed, enthusiastic, ongoing agreement of all parties to any activity — freely given, reversible at any time, specific to what was agreed, and never assumed from prior encounters.
Consent is the foundational operating principle of every ethical non-monogamy community. The standard is not merely the absence of a 'no' — it is the presence of an active, informed 'yes' from everyone involved. Community shorthand is FRIES: Freely given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific.
Freely given means no coercion, pressure, or alcohol-impaired decision-making. Reversible means anyone can withdraw consent at any moment without consequence. Informed means no misrepresentation about who is present, what will happen, or what the structure of the encounter is. Enthusiastic means genuine willingness, not resigned compliance. Specific means agreeing to one thing does not mean agreeing to anything similar.
