Is this something single women do?
Yes — and there's nothing to justify.
The lifestyle is often described through couples because couples make up the largest share of the community, but single women have always been part of it — some exploring their own sexuality on their own terms, some interested in connecting with couples, some primarily there to meet other single women. What differs for a single woman is pacing and vetting, not eligibility. Without a partner to compare notes with in the moment, most single women lean more on advance research before they respond to anyone.
First steps

Decide what you actually want.
One-time, ongoing, meeting other women, or just learning — pin this down before you verify or message anyone. It changes which spaces and conversations are worth your time.
Verify your identity.

Set your own limits, in writing.
Even just to yourself: what you're open to, what's off-limits, and what would make you leave a conversation or an event. They're allowed to change as you learn more.
Start low-pressure.
A meet-and-greet or a casual social event is a better first step than a club night or a private party — fully clothed, low-stakes, and a real read on who's actually in the community.

Unicorn
A single, often bisexual woman who connects with an existing couple. The term reflects rarity, not obligation — some women use it as shorthand for what they're open to; plenty skip it entirely.
SF (single female)
A common shorthand in lifestyle profiles and listings for a single woman, distinct from a couple (M/F) or single male (SM) listing.
The third
Another way people describe a single person — of any gender — joining an existing couple for a connection, event, or evening.
ENM
Ethical non-monogamy — the broader umbrella covering swinging, open relationships, and polyamory: multiple consensual relationships, openly agreed to by everyone involved.
