What does Drawing Room mean?
A Drawing Room is the original name for a Thread on JoinTheSwing — a moderated community discussion, visible to all verified members, where the community talks through venue reviews, relationship dynamics, and etiquette questions.
Drawing Rooms was the original name for Threads on JoinTheSwing. The name borrowed from the 18th-century salon tradition — a drawing room was where polite society gathered for substantive conversation — and the surface is now simply called Threads. Threads are not private (unlike Groups) — they're visible to all verified members — but they are moderated, topic-focused, and archival.
Each Thread has a title, an author, and a series of replies. Topics range from the practical (venue reviews, event schedules, travel tips) to the philosophical (jealousy management, the etiquette of the soft no, navigating NRE in the Lifestyle). Threads can be open, locked after a period, or archived when the topic has run its course.
Threads serve a different function from Groups. Groups are private, persistent communities. Threads are the community's collective intelligence: searchable, archival, and open to the full verified membership. A new member browsing old Threads is reading the accumulated experience of everyone who came before them.
