What does Circle mean?
A Circle is the original name for a Group on JoinTheSwing — a private, invitation-only group, organized by geography, interest, tier, or host affiliation, visible only to approved or invited members.
Circles was the original name for Groups on JoinTheSwing. Groups are the community's answer to a problem public forums create: when spaces are large and open, self-disclosure becomes risky and trust is diluted. Groups solve this by making every group small, gated, and host-controlled.
Each Group has a host who sets membership criteria (open to any verified member, or curated by invitation), controls governance, and can require a minimum vouch count or verification tier for entry. Inside a Group, members share Threads, plan gatherings, and build the kind of trusted micro-community that public timelines cannot support.
Groups can be geographic (a Miami group — for verified members planning the Miami season), interest-based (Wine + Conversation), tier-based (Inner Circle — reserved for highly vouched members), or host-affiliated (Down2Party's private planning room). They are the digital expression of the community's preference for smaller, trusted rooms.
